Original story from Dr Kirsten Jackson http://www.facebook.com/dentalvet
We noticed a warning from an Equine Vet Dentist the other day, which we thought we should pass along.
It seems that Dr Kirsten Jackson is seeing a lot of lacerations and ulcerations in horse’s mouths caused by barley grass at the seed head stage.

We thought we should pass this information along so that you can identify it, and then choose to either exclude your horse while it is seeding or eliminate it from your pasture. Unfortunately, we don’t think that slashing will do much good because horses are great at finding seeds either on the stalk or on the ground.
Also, have a look through any grass/meadow hay deliveries and make sure that you don’t have barley grass in the bale.
